Construction of a Platform at the Queenscliff Marine Discovery Centre
The recently announced State Government and local Council grants to The Bellarine Railway will allow the construction of a platform adjacent to the Marine Discovery Centre at the Narrows. The platform will be 50m long and of rail and concrete construction. MDC will assist with fencing and landscaping. Plans are being finalised with our civil engineers Trams, and permits are underway from DSE and BOQ. Construction will commence after the Xmas running season. The new station will be named "Swan Bay". Construction of a Rolling Stock Storage Shed at Lakers Siding The recently announced State Government and local Council grants to The Bellarine Railway will allow the construction of a long awaited Rolling Stock Storage Shed at Lakers Siding. The proposed building will be constructed between the existing station and the Portarlington Road. The shed will be approx 150m long and 24m wide and have 4 storage roads. This building will be large enough to store all passenger rolling stock and locomotives under cover and will finally reduce the maintenance task that is currently continuous due to the ravages of the weather. The shed will feature modest internal facilities including a toilet, paint store and small carpentry area allowing minor repairs to be conducted on site also. The building will be environmentally friendly and have 45000 litres of water storage tanks, allowing us to capture the large water runoff from the roof in a responsible manner. Final plans have been drawn up, Victrack and COGG permissions are being finalised and a construction tender has been let, and we should see the building take shape rapidly during July 2007. To provide sufficient space the main running line will be moved closer to the Eastern fenceline. A JCB 3CX Front End Loader was recently purchased by the society to assist with this work.
